Debt Settlement & Consolidation Attorney in Florida
Consolidating vs. Settling Debt
When you are facing overwhelming debt that you are having trouble keeping up with, working with a debt settlement attorney is the right step to take to begin to handle your situation. With a qualified and skilled legal counsel to assist you with making the choices you need to make to get back on track, you can feel confident your financial situation can begin to turn around. Attorney Deborah Carman believes in providing personal attention to each one of her clients, giving them the advice they need to make the right choices.
When consulting with my office, I will carefully review your financial situation so as to best understand your circumstances. There are various options to take when attempting to handle your debt. Two of them involve whether to settle your debt or choose to consolidate it.
If sufficient funds are available, a debt settlement can include settling a debt for a fraction of the total in exchange for a set amount to be paid at once or in 2-3 payments. My office will work aggressively to negotiate with your lenders to obtain the lowest possible repayment amount possible. While my firm always tries to get the lender to not affect your credit rating, we can't always promise this will occur. Therefore, you may end up with a negative impact from debt settlement.
Consolidating your debt allows you to combine all of your debt into one lump sum through a consolidation loan. The loan pays off all your other lenders, and you remain with one loan to pay, with a monthly payment you can afford. This will not negatively impact your credit, as you are paying back the amount you owed to each creditor and combining it into one larger loan that can be for a longer period of time so as to make the payments more affordable.
